Scott's Four Cheese Lasagne
from the kitchen of Nicole Jordan
Serves 12
This recipe is from my friends Scott and Michele Haaland - they made it for a dinner party and it was the best lasagne I had ever had! You definitely need a 3+ inch deep dish pan for this one!!
Preparation Time
2 1/2 hours (1 1/2 hours prep, 1 hour to bake)
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 white onions, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon each basil, oregano, marjoram, thyme and sage
- 2 lbs ground meat (I use 95% lean)
- 2 28 oz bottles Prego meat sauce
- 1 lb package lasagne noodles
- 1 32 oz package mozzarella cheese, grated
- 1 5 oz package parmesan cheese, grated
- 8 oz each jack cheese and cheddar cheese, grated
Directions
- saute onion, garlic and italian spices in butter until onions are translucent (~10 minutes)
- add ground beef and brown
- add Prego meat sauce; turn heat to low, cover loosely and simmer
- cook lasagne noodles
- preheat oven to 350
- to assemble lasagne, coat bottom of pan with a little sauce, layer six noodles, 4 cups sauce, half the mozarella, and half the parmesan; repeat with six noodles, 4 cups sauce, the rest of the mozzarella and the rest of the parmesan; top with remaining six noodles, sauce, jack and cheddar cheeses
- cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes to an hour at 350 (remove foil for last 10-15 minutes)
Tip...
Tom and I, for our wedding, got the coolest gift ever - a KitchenAid Mixer. With this mixer you can purchase special attachments including a cheese grater. For this recipe, the cheese grater saves a ton of time - I highly recommend these fun kitchen toys.
