Savory Homemade Pizza
from the kitchen of Nicole Jordan
Serves 2-4
Note, this recipes calls for a 2 lb breadmaker to make the dough. I make this pie in a 14-inch deep dish pan.
Preparation Time
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon italian seasonings
- 1 tablespoon yeast (I use yeast that works with both quick-rise recipes and regular)
- 1 1/2 cups basic tomato sauce
- 14 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated
- italian seasonings, to taste
- crushed red pepper, to taste
- other toppings, as desired
Directions
- for dough, place the first 8 ingredients in the order listed above in a 2 lb breadmaker; note, when adding the yeast make an indentation in the flour to pour it into so it doesn't get wet while the breadmaker heats up.
- run the dough cycle for quick rise dough (my machine takes 45 minutes).
- when the dough is complete, roll it out on a lightly floured cutting board to roughly the size of the deep dish pizza pan.
- lightly grease the pan with olive oil or pam, then place the dough in it; allow to rise at room temperature for 20 minutes to an hour.
- preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- coat dough with tomato sauce then top with shredded mozzarella, red pepper, italian seasonings and any other toppings as desired.
- bake until crust turns light brown and cheese is melted (about 20 minutes).
- allow to cool a few minutes before slicing.
